COVID-19 ADVICE FOR THE ELDERLY

This is a pdf produced on Saturday 21st March the day after the Prime Minister of the UK closed pubs, bars, restaurants and gyms. Earlier in the week he closed schools. The message for elderly and at risk people at this exception time is simple:

Only go out when you absolutely have to.

When you do go out go to open spaces with plenty of fresh air. Do not go into closed spaces with recycled air.

Keep away from as many people as you can while you are out. Wear gloves, use sanitiser and don’t touch your face until you can wash properly with lots of soap and water.

Stop people coming in and out of your house.

Act as if you already have a nasty infectious disease and you didn’t want to give it to anyone else. (This virus can be in your system for many days without you feeling sick. You might already have it.)

I hope this advice and information will be helpful to anyone elderly (or in any one of the other high risk categories). Please share it as widely as you please.

This is an excellent video made by a epidemiologist. Her advice is clear and based in science. Watch at 3.43 as she gets emotional when she speaks about having to socially distance herself from her own elderly mother. This is hard for everyone.
Listen to an Italian doctor currently in the middle of their outbreak. For 9 people out of 10 who get this it will feel like a seasonal flu. The rest will require hospitalisation and many of them will need oxygen and help to breathe. The disease can be spread by seemingly healthy people for up to ten days before they realise they are sick. This is why staying at home now even though it seems like there is no great increase in numbers is the best way to stop the health care system collapsing.
This is a hard watch. This is a British nurse working in Italy telling how bad it could get if we don't act now.
This video clearly explains why we must socially isolate and distance now.
This is an easy to watch animated explainer that gives excellent background and advice.
